Family rescued after 10 days stranded in the Australian outback


Australia – A father was stranded with his two young sons in the Australian wilderness for 10 days after taking an unfortunate wrong turn.

Steven Van Lonkhuyzen rationed food to his 5-year-old and 7-year-old and collected rainwater in order to stay alive. The boys were recovering Monday in the hospital.

On Dec. 11, Van Lonkhuyzen’s wrong turn took the family down a muddy road where his four-wheel-drive vehicle got stuck. He was trying to drive from his home in Brisbane to Cairns, according to Queensland Police Acting Superintendent Mick Bianchi.
